What is Petroleum Engineering?

Petroleum engineers extract oil, gas and other resources from the earth. They Design and develop methods for petroleum production in the most efficient, economic and environmentally responsible manner. Petroleum engineering graduates work all over the world in the areas of drilling, production, reservoir engineering, refining, construction and maintenance of pipelines, developing new fuels, and carbon capture and sequestration technologies. It is possible for petroleum engineers to select a profession that matches their interests and skills due to the abundance of opportunities.

About PMRE

The Department of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Engineering (PMRE) is the first university level program in Bangladesh to address the growing needs and challenges in the petroleum and minerals sector of the country. Presently it offers only post graduate degrees. The department was established under BUET- University of Alberta institutional linkage project, with the financial assistance from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). The formation of the department was approved by the Academic Council of BUET on November 5, 1990. The department was established in the year 1992, and the academic programs began in 1995.
